Bucher Emhart Glass and Cerrion have joined forces to develop AI technology for the glass manufacturing industry.
The two firms claim that they will provide glassmakers with AI solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency and safety. Emhart is concentrating on promoting its concept of autonomous glass manufacturing. This will present glassmakers with comprehensive solutions to tackle industry issues like labor shortages, loss of expertise, low efficiency, and stringent safety requirements.
Process anomalies on a glass line, which are an inescapable part of the glass - making process, are among the main factors contributing to low efficiency, high safety demands, and the growing problems related to workforce shortages. These anomalies result in losses, fire risks, and equipment damage, and necessitate continuous human monitoring of the line.
Emhart and Cerrion are providing an integrated solution to deal with these anomalies. Cerrion's hot - end video AI system, which can detect anomalies such as deflected gobs, glass jams, fallen containers, and flames, is already in use by glassmakers in eight countries.
By directly connecting to Emhart's Flex IS 3 control system, the AI can perform automatic corrective actions, such as halting parts of the production line to prevent fires, cut down on downtime, and prevent equipment damage.
This combined plug - and - play solution has been put into practice at Stoelzle, a glass manufacturer, in its sites in Stoelzle Union, Czech Republic, and Stoelzle Oberglas in Austria. It activates three to five corrective actions per day per line with an accuracy of over 98%. This lessens the production safety risks. Cerrion intends to roll out this solution across the glass industry in the near future.
